Palace garden with hundred playing boys. Ink and colours on silk, framed. Signed: "respectfully painted by Qintianjian Wuguan Jiao Bingzhen" and a seal unread.
From an old Swiss private collection, acquired on 29.5.1990, lot 259 at Lempertz in Cologne, publ. on plate 31 - Wear, minor damages due to age, minor rest.
Jiao Bingzhen was a native of Jining of Shandong Province who became a noted painter and astronomer. He is one of the first Qing dynasty painters to blend traditional Chinese painting with western culture. He is also among the more significant portrait and miniature painters in the early Qing.
